It’s not Motivation and I am (NOT) a Motivational Speaker
What do you think of when you hear the words motivational speaker?
“Good grief, not another motivational speaker…”
I’ve thought that myself at seminars and conferences from time to time.
I’ve never been entirely comfortable with the label “motivational speaker” although it has been applied to what I do for nearly two and a half decades.
The consistent theme often appears to be, “Get motivated and everything will change!” I think it is more accurate to say,
“Change something and you will get motivated!”
It doesn’t take motivation to change your life. Your life can move in a positive direction when you are unmotivated, uninspired and even have a bad attitude.
Choice supersedes all of the above. Positive change begins with a positive choice. Choice is independent of motivation and is not determined by the past or the future. Choice is available to us right now, and right now, and right now…
One simple choice can change the course of your life. One simple choice repeated over a period of time becomes a discipline. One discipline leads to more disciplines. When you become aware of the ripple effect from your choices you tend to be more “motivated.”
No motivational speaker, book, coach, program, or sermon can motivate you if you are unwilling to choose.
I highly recommend motivation, inspiration, and a good attitude. But lack of any or all of these is no excuse for remaining stagnant and stuck. You can choose right now to begin again, to get back into the ring, to make today your “Day One”, to begin your 40 Days of FOCUS… No one can choose for you.
One simple choice…
Choose simply. Choose powerfully. Choose now.
What is one simple choice that changed the course of your life?
